As we move closer to indoor championship season, here are some of the highlights I have noticed for the early 2008-2009 season:
Boys: SR Gianni Vissat: 2:02.20 800m SO Dashawn Gates: 52.57 400m
Girls: FR Anna Pickett: 2:27.3 800m; 3:13.84 1000m FR Lea Cure: 5:11.9 1500m; 10:55.31 3000m FR Kelly Camardo: 11:01.66 3000m
Also look for Ian Tappler in the Boys hurdles and Karley Giles in the Girls jumps to be in the mix for patches.
I am impressed with the girls depth and their youth. The Lady Dutch will have a very deep, very competitive XC squad next Fall.
Alum Highlights: '02 Gered Burns: 2:25.99 1000m '06 Seth DuBois: 8:37.69 (FTW) 3000m; 14:35.05 (FTW) 5000m (NCAA provisional qualifying time) '06 Justin Wager: 8:46.92 3000m '07 BRD: 4:17.47 Mile '08 Roland Graves: 9:02.9 3000m
Alum Related: Bethlehem Gils JR Shannon McCarten is undefeated in all events entered this season (1000m, 1500m, 4 X 800m). Shannon is the daughter of Bill McCarten '78, former GCHS 1600m and 4 X 800m record holder for nearly 30 years (4:12.7c and 7:53.9c). Bethlehem appears to have skipped the major meets so far, so keep an eye on Shannon as the competition heats up.
Next up: Suburban Council Championships at S.U.N.Y.-Albany 1/31/09
Keep having fun! Jim "Dandy" Davidson '79
